Tonight is girls' night because the guys have decided it's guys' night. They are going to see Robin Hood at the theatre and Keri, Emily, and me are staying in to watch Mean Girls. Jonathan was holding Emily upside down the other night (just playing, of course) and I saw something white underneath her gums. After some investigation, I discovered the answer to many of our questions as of late. She appears to be cutting three teeth at one time! I suppose this is fitting though seeing as how she is on the verge of her first birthday and only has two teeth. She is a tad behind on the dental part of development. Not for long! This discovery explains the intermittent diaper rash, spells of sleeplessness, and bouts of appetitelessness. That would be a neat word if it were a word at all. Oh well, you get the picture.
Jonathan is having significant trouble sleeping. He returned to the doctor today in desperate need of a sleep aid. Hopefully this will temporarily cure the problem until his referral for a sleep testing center is approved. Doctor Amanda says it's sleep apnea. We will see.
At the advice of several dear friends, I am reading C.S. Lewis' Screwtape Letters. So far, I am enjoying it immensely. I can testify that there is so much truth in this work of fiction. It is so neat to be able to identify with the tactics that the devil can use to win over a soul or even make a valiant attempt at such. Lewis seems to have had an incredible understanding of the way God works as well as Satan and expresses it well in this book. I recommend it, for sure. Chapter 8 is my favorite.
In other news, Texas is HOT. Gee whiz is it hot. It's only May and it feels like a day in July at home in Tennessee. I love the outdoors so much but the heat truly makes it difficult to enjoy. Also, after an allergy test, I have come to find out that I'm allergic to Mountain Oak. I'm somewhat confused as to why there is a tree specific to central Texas called Mountain Oak. I have not seen any mountains around here. Am I missing something? Anyways, it sure is a bother to the sinuses.
We are all doing fine here in Texas despite the allergies, heat, and sleep apnea. After that last sentence, it seems as if the title of this blog should have been "Complaint After Complaint". Forgive me, for I do not mean to whine. Take it as more of an informative entry. That was my motivation from the start. We miss our loved ones terribly and are thankful for the friends we have made here with which we spend our time. Thank you for reading.
I've been enjoying catching up on your last few entries, Amanda. I'm so glad for you and the joy you are having in life! It's hard to believe little Emily is nearly one . . . We were in TX a couple of weeks ago and it was hot! It's always hot there in summer, but not usually this much so early. Anyway, wanted to let you know I think of you often and am glad to be able to keep up with you a bit. Any chance you'll fulfill that longing for college back at Bryan someday? I'd love to have you in class again! Oh, and try Lewis's _The Great Divorce_ when you've finished _Screwtape_, then _Till We Have Faces_. I think you'd enjoy them. Love and blessings from Beth Impson
ReplyDeleteMean Girls??!! What kind of movie is that? Oh, that's right, "girl's night." Couldn't have been any worse than Robin Hood. I actually just wrote this post to let you know how much I'm enjoying the music selections here (I'm listening while writing up my message on Revelation 16). Great tunes - I had the worship team read thru "Stronger" last week, we'll add that to our rotation soon. Love you guys,

You should mention that we didn't end up watching, "Mean Girls." We watched "Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium" instead. :)
